Many shows and films over the past few decades have moved away from depicting a stable two-parent household as the norm. Instead, parents are often shown as bumbling, out-of-touch, or irrelevant characters, while children are portrayed as the wiser, independent ones. This normalizes the idea that parental guidance is optional or comedic rather than foundational.

The modern work culture—especially the ideal of both parents working long hours while children spend most of their time in institutional care—reflects an implicit message: contribution to the economy outranks time spent building a household.

But neuroscience tells us clearly: Being a strong and present force in your children’s upbringing builds secure, discerning minds; time away from your children breeds confusion, compliance, and suggestibility. Today, the nuclear family means rebellion!
